Doctoral study program Andragogy/Adult Education is focused on generating of creative scientific and research potential in the action fields of adult education. This are the theoretical and empirical aspects of learning and education in the field of adult education, culture work, personnel development and consulting. Structure of curriculum of doctoral program Andragogy is influenced by analysed the structure of curriculum doctoral programs of Adult Education in North America. Doctoral program is focused on independent work in research and it is realized by the individual curricula under the guidance of a supervisor
Requirements for admission
The entrance procedure includes:
Testing the general knowledge of basics and contemporary issues of andragogy,
Successful defence of the dissertation research project with an emphasis on the methodology of the project.
The study programme is designed for graduates in MA in andragogy or MA graduates in other study programmes - e.g. education, social science and other social and human studies.
During the entrance exams, following skills will be examined:
Capability for scientific research work
Ability to present and defend a dissertation research project
Ability to communicate in English and/or other foreign languages (German, Russian...) in the context of the research topic in particular
Programme teaching goals
The goal of the Andragogy doctoral study programme is to raise scientifically competent professionals. These competencies are demonstrated by graduates´ autonomy in the area of understanding and developing scientific theories in the context of his/her own research project. The doctoral study programme supports students to become both scientific professionals as well as leaders on higher managerial levels. The programme offers not the development of knowledge in the field but also project management skills necessary for adult education and wider andragogy context. These skills include ability to identify the research problem, to set methodological background and to interpret the problem through theoretical and empirical research strategies. By taking transdisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity of andragogy discourse into account, the doctoral study programme focuses on the consequences of andragogy in the field of social and human studies and its links to other disciplines - especially to education, sociology and psychology, including their application areas, for instance adult learning and education theories, human resources development and theory of (social and personal) counselling
The graduate of the doctoral study programme is oriented in the historical development and contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches and practical applications. His/her specialization is based on his/her dissertation project. The graduate is able to demonstrate the knowledge of publications in the field. Presentation and research management skills, ability to discuss specific theoretical and methodological issues of andragogy and ability to describe and work with contemporary discourses of andragogy are also part of his/her abilities
Thorough knowledge of andragogical theory, proven knowledge and skills in the implementation of socio-scientific empirical research in adult education, sophisticated skills in the design, implementation and evaluation of educational projects, lecturing skills. Valid knowledge and skills in the field of psychology, sociology, management and human resource management for highly conceptual work in education, its organization and human resource management

These competencies allow the graduate to find a position especially in research and educational areas at universities and research facilities with the focus on adult education, human resources development and counselling
